Waygateshaw House boasts stunning views over the Clyde Valley. Dating from the sixteenth century and set in 27 acres of beautiful woodlands.

The Estate was owned by the Lockhart family from 1539 until 1720. Waygateshaw House is a 16th century courtyard castle, consisting of a 16th century tower house with a 17th century wing. It has a modern block and a 12ft wall which encloses the fourth side into a romantic, dainty courtyard, perfect for a relaxing meal with friends.

This was a property of the Murrays of Touchadam, though passed to by marriage to Alexander Lockhart in 1539. Stephen Lockhart was indicted in the murder of Henry Lord Darnley in 1572. The family forfeited the Estate for taking part in the Pentland Rising of 1666, but later regained the Estate. It was then sold to the Weirs in 1720, and then passed to the Steel family. It had been restored during the 1980's, though was burnt to a shell around 1990.

The house has now been completely restored by the Chiswell Family.
